Ensemble Nova Luce

‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard classical music played and thought it more beautiful’ – Lunch Hour London

Praised by Frances Wilson for their “most enjoyable and vibrant” playing, and recently named semi-finalists in the prestigious St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition, Ensemble Nova Luce is an exciting young ensemble made up of flute, two violins, viola, cello, double bass and piano. At the heart of Ensemble Nova Luce’s programmes are J. P. Salomon’s arrangements of Haydn’s twelve London Symphonies which provide “wit and humour aplenty” and are always well-received by the ensemble’s audiences. The ensemble also performs repertoire by Beethoven, Dvorak, Hummel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Reger, Rubbra, Shostakovich and Weber.

Ensemble Nova Luce is made up of highly experienced chamber musicians, Marie Schreer, William Newell, Henrietta Hill, Naomi McLean, Gwen Reed, Rosie Bowker, and Hélène Favre-Bulle who have appeared at venues across the world including the Stern Auditorium Perlman Stage at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Royal Albert Hall, LSO St Luke’s, Barbican Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields and at music festivals in France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Armenia, Russia and the UK.

Ensemble Nova Luce was formed in 2015 as a flexible ensemble by postgraduate students and fellows of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. The ensemble has performed across London at venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Paddington, St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, St Pancras New Church, St Mary-le-bow Church, St Botolph’s-without-Aldgate and at the Orpheus & Bacchus Festival in France. They have received coaching from Jacqueline Ross and David Dolan and participated in masterclasses with world-renowned improviser, Robert Levin. Plans for the coming year include recording Ensemble Nova Luce’s début CD as well as further concerts across the UK, including at the Maidenhead Music Society.
